Hybrid's World Renowned Scientist Publishes Book With Leading Publisher

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hybrid Coating Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:HCTI) is pleased to announce that its world renowned head scientist Dr. Oleg Figovsky recently published a book called "Advanced Polymer Concrete and Compounds." The publisher CRC Press, a division of Informa PLC (LSE:INF) with a £3.1 Billion market cap, is one of the largest publishers in the world. "We are very fortunate to have Dr. Oleg Figovsky, a leading scientist and the foremost expert in the field of non isocyanate polyurethane, as our inventor and head scientist," said Joseph Kristul, President and CEO. "His stature in the international arena and his knowledge and expertise are an important asset to our team as we continue to work with our commercial partners to finalize various modifications of our non isocyanate polyurethane platform technology according to their specifications."

Dr. Figovsky is one of the most well-recognized and accomplished scientists and inventors in the nanotech field. He is the principal inventor of the Green Polyurethane™ platform technology and has over 40 years of experience in the field of special coatings, adhesives, sealants and corrosion protection. Dr. Figovsky is currently Chairman of the UNESCO (UN Agency) chair for Green Chemistry. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the "Leading Intellectual of the World" award from Harvard University, the NASA Nanotech Briefs®' Nano 50™ Award, the Gold Angel Prize at the "Genius Exhibitions," the "One Thousand Great Scientists" award from Cambridge University and gold and silver medals at the IENA-98 in Nurnberg, Germany. Dr. Figovsky's biography was included in the following books: "Who's Who in the World" (2002-2003) and "Who's Who in Science and Technology" (2002-2003). He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, the Expert of Technical Projects for the Ministry of Industry & Trade in Israel and a Foreign Member of two Russian Academies of Sciences (REA & RAASN). Since 1999 he has been the editor-in-chief of the journal "Scientific Israel – Technological Advantages," and since 2004 has been the editor of the international journal "Alternative Energy & Ecology." Dr. Figovsky is an accomplished author of 17 books, more than 300 scientific articles, and more than 500 patents in his name.

Hybrid's patented technology is the only formulation in the world today that produces polyurethane without the use of any isocyanates in the entire production process.

On June 25, 2013 the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, initiated a National Emphasis Program to protect workers from the serious health effects from occupational exposure to isocyanates.  Isocyanates are found in polyurethane-based products. According to the OSHA, "Workers exposed to isocyanates can suffer debilitating health problems for months or even years after exposure which could result in death."

The U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is looking to control and potentially outright ban isocyanates and mentioned Hybrid's technology as an alternative to toxic polyurethane in its Action Plan against isocyanates (see page 4 Figovsky and Shapovalov)

About Hybrid Coating Technologies

Hybrid Coating Technologies (HCT) is a San Francisco-based innovator focused on improving the quality and safety of coatings and paint for industrial and commercial customers around the world. We are the exclusive licensee of Green Polyurethane™ coatings and paint – the world's first-ever patent-protected polyurethane-based coatings and paint products which eliminate toxic isocyanates from the entire production process (licensed by Nanotech Industries, Inc.).

The Problem of Conventional Coatings/Paint and Isocyanates

Conventional polyurethane (PU) paint and coatings have many disadvantages: they are porous, permeable and maintain poor hydrolytic stability. This makes the material highly vulnerable to environmental degradation and ultimately leads to their chemical decomposition, especially when in contact with water. Strict and costly health & safety measures have to be implemented in the manufacture and application of conventional polyurethane due to the toxicity of isocyanates. This is why regulatory bodies around the world are now looking toward phasing out the use of isocyanates.

The Green Polyurethane™ Solution

Green Polyurethane™ (also referred to as "HNIPU" - hybrid non-isocyanate polyurethane) is a "hybrid" material, which combines the high chemical resistance properties of epoxy and advanced durability and wear resistance properties of polyurethane, making it the perfect application for high traffic and corrosive surface areas. As a hybrid material with superior properties, Green Polyurethane ™ can be applied in one coating in most cases, providing a welcome cost-saving substitute to currently used multi-layered flooring applications. Green Polyurethane™ also provides the first sound solution to the environmental and health hazards associated with isocyanates in polyurethane. Its safety features allow it to be applied without the interruption of business due to public exposure, creating an additional 30-60% savings on application costs for customers.
