Two Patented Portfolios Relating to Robotics & Sensors Available for Sale by ICAP Patent Brokerage

New York, NY, Feb. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- ICAP Patent Brokerage announces for sale two portfolios disclosing improved rotary paddle sensors and boundary sensors from Richard A. Bishel and G. Gregory Wilson. This IP package is available via sealed bid with a bidding deadline of March 27, 2014. Bids for this lot will be accepted starting March 25 through March 27.

"The technology in these two portfolios provides improved sensors allowing companies to produce reliable and low cost controls for automatic steering of autonomous vehicles. The IP is important for companies providing robotic systems for agriculture, lawn maintenance, curb scrubbers, garbage trucks, and other automated applications," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.

Key Characteristics & Benefits

The first portfolio discloses improved rotary paddle sensors for determining a level, distance, boundary, or height of a material by contacting the material with a rotating paddle. These sensors use a magnetic pickup to detect the relative motion between a paddle and a shaft rotated by a motor. These paddle sensors may be used to detect a level of a substance such as dry bulk materials or liquids, as well as a boundary between two surfaces such as mowed or unkempt vegetation. These sensors overcome the disadvantages of prior rotary paddle sensors, and also may be used for a wider range of applications. One application (CIP included) includes autonomous lawnmowers that utilized this sensor technology for vehicle guidance.

The second portfolio relates to a system for guiding or controlling a semi-autonomous or autonomous vehicle. Prior systems do not reliably detect boundaries or provide a reasonable cost technique for controlling robotic vehicles. This portfolio uses a plurality of non-contact distance measuring sensors. To determine the boundary, the system processes information provided by distance measuring sensors including (i) infrared distance sensors; (ii) ultrasonic distance sensors; (iii) microwave distance sensors; (iv) laser distance sensors; (v) vision distance sensors, and (vi) other non-contact distance measuring sensors. Once a boundary is detected, the system determines the location of the vehicle and provides control signals to steer the vehicle along the detected or virtual boundary.
