Media Advisory: MADD Canada, SGI and SLGA Bring Smashed to Saskatchewan Students

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 28, 2014) - What do you do when a friend is drunk or high and he or she makes an awful decision that puts lives at risk? Thousands of students across Saskatchewan will have the chance to consider that question and see the consequences when they view Smashed, MADD Canada's 2013-2014 School Assembly Program.

Smashed delivers an emotional and realistic reminder about just how easily and quickly a night of partying can turn to tragedy when someone makes the wrong decision.

This week, MADD Canada, Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) are marking the arrival of the Smashed program in Saskatchewan with a special screening for students and staff at Scott Collegiate in Regina.

Media are welcome to attend the launch and speak with special guests, students and school staff.

Students who see Smashed will experience a fictional account of friends who ditch a school dance in favour of going to a house party, and where one terrible decision causes a lifetime of grief and guilt. The dramatization is followed by the real stories of three victims of impaired driving crashes.

Teens and young adults are at significantly increased risk for impaired driving crashes. MADD Canada's School Assembly Program aims to get young people thinking and talking about the dangers of impaired driving and the need to take precautions to protect themselves and their friends. Thanks to the support of sponsors such as SGI and SLGA, Smashed and the French language program, Impact, will be delivered to approximately one million students across Canada this school year.
