Keller Rohrback Announces Investigation of Amazon Services LLC Regarding Alleged Unfair and Deceptive Shipping Costs

SEATTLE, Feb. 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attorney Advertising. Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is investigating claims that Amazon Services LLC ("Amazon" or the "Company") subjects the Company's Amazon Prime members to alleged unfair and deceptive shipping costs.

Amazon Prime members pay an annual fee of $79 for various benefits including free shipping when a member purchases a product designated as Prime eligible. Amazon allegedly encourages certain third-party vendors to designate their products as Prime eligible while also allegedly encouraging those vendors to raise the prices of their products by the amount that would have been charged for shipping if the product were not Prime eligible. Amazon reportedly charges the vendors a referral fee based on the price of the product. By encouraging certain vendors to include the costs of shipping in the prices of their products, Amazon recovers the costs of shipping through the referral fee. This is not free shipping. Among other possible causes of action, these practices potentially violate state breach of contract law, the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, as well as the applicable state Unfair Trade Practices Act and Consumer Protection Act.

If you were an Amazon Prime member prior to February 22, 2011 and have been negatively impacted by Amazon's alleged unfair and deceptive shipping costs, please contact attorneys Karin Swope or Mark Griffin, or paralegal Michael Thompson for additional information at (800) 776-6044 or via e-mail at info@kellerrohrback.com.
