SP+ Gameday and Kurt Busch Partner to Recognize Fallen Soldier


LAS VEGAS, March 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SP+ Gameday, in conjunction with Kurt Busch, driver of #41 SS Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing, will recognize fallen U.S. Army Sgt. Clinton K. Ruiz by displaying his name on the #41 car during a NASCAR Sprint Cup series race. The race is scheduled for Sunday, Mar. 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. SP+ Gameday donated two VIP ticket packages to the Ruiz family, so that they could take part in the dedication.

Ruiz was born Mar. 14, 1990, in Poway, Calif. and later relocated to Murrieta, Calif. Ruiz was a 2008 graduate of Murrieta Valley High School. He joined the Army in May 2009. After training, Ruiz graduated from the Psychological Operations Advanced Individual Training and Korean Language School at Ft. Bragg in 2010. He served with the 9th Military Information Support Battalion (Airborne) based at Fort Bragg, N.C. and was deployed to Afghanistan. Ruiz was killed by small arms fire on Oct. 25, 2012 in Oruzgan Province, when their unit was attacked by enemy forces. He is survived by his wife Kiran, son Caleb, mother Carla Trease, father John and brother Parker.

A highly decorated soldier, Ruiz was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.
