MacAulay-Brown, Inc. and ITC Partner to Rehost Critical Air Force Equipment Management System Development Mainframe Without the Need to Replace Legacy System

Improves Development Environment and Frees Capacity for Critical Production

DAYTON, Ohio, March 10, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MacAulay-Brown, Inc. (MacB), a leading National Security company delivering advanced engineering services and product solutions to Defense, Intelligence, Homeland Security and Federal agencies, announced today that, in partnership with Information Technology Company (ITC), it has migrated a mission-critical Air Force Equipment Management System (AFEMS) development system from an IBM z114 mainframe to a fully compatible Enterprise-class System ReDD server. The entire migration took less than four days to complete.

As the AFEMS prime contractor, MacB developed the original concept and provided direct support during the implementation. ITC developed and delivered the ready-to-run system. It then transparently migrated and activated more than a dozen third-party software products - including the CA-Top Secret® security manager - providing system and application operation identical to the previous environment.

"The ability to cost-effectively and efficiently migrate legacy systems to a better working environment without having to completely replace the entire network is critical to the Department of Defense (DoD) as it looks to cut costs, but at the same time increase capabilities," said Tim Lawrence, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MacB's Advanced Technology Group. "Through our partnership with ITC, we have demonstrated that it is possible to provide such a capability."

The inherent flexibility of System ReDD's integrated desktop development tools lets AFEMS easily support new environments, allowing developing and testing cloud applications using Rational RDz with JAVA or COBOL.

"The performance, flexibility and redundancy features of the integrated IBM Rational RD&T 1091 system, along with our team of experts, allowed us to fully migrate the AFEMS customer in less than four days," said Stan King, CEO of ITC. "The new environment increases the Air Force's ability to create innovative applications used to increase the national security of the Nation."

AFEMS, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, is the system of record for equipment management capabilities worldwide, automating processing and producing timely/accurate data. Its centralized capability determines, authorizes, accounts for, provides visibility to, manages and reports on equipment and information technology (IT) assets supporting Air Force missions.
