NASDAQ OMX Riga Launches 2014 Bachelor's or Master's Thesis Competition


Tallinn/Riga/Vilnius, Baltic Market, March 18, 2014 – The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:NDAQ) announces that NASDAQ OMX Riga, for the 9th consecutive year, arranges the competition for the best Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis addressing Latvian and/or Baltic securities market related questions.

The thesis submitted for the competition will be evaluated by a selected Competition Commission, comprising representatives from NASDAQ OMX Riga, teaching staff from higher educational establishments, and industry professionals. The winner of the competition will receive a money prize of EUR 1000 (after tax). October 1, 2014 is the deadline for submitting the thesis.

“Focusing on investing in the education of the next business leaders is a great approach to help meet tomorrow’s business needs. This competition aims to encourage the interest of students in the development of the Latvian and Baltic securities market and the opportunities offered by it to investors and companies, to facilitate understanding about the role of the securities market in the national economy. It is also important that this competition may raise the academic quality of Bachelor’s and Master's Theses in order to keep pace with the changing demands of the global job market,” said Liene Dubava, Chairman of the Competition Commission and Head of Issuer Services, NASDAQ OMX Baltic Market.

Students are invited to submit their Bachelor's or Master's theses that have been presented in the last quarter of 2013 or during the academic year of 2014 on topics related to the Latvian and/or Baltic securities market. The theses may be written either in Latvian or English, and should have a score from the competitor's higher educational establishment of no lower than 7 points. The thesis can only be submitted in any of the three Baltic exchange thesis competitions once.

To enter the competition, a digital copy of the Bachelor’s or Master's thesis (in PDF or MS Word format) should be sent to the e-mail address riga@nasdaqomx.com with the following information:

  • Author's name, last name, e-mail address, telephone number;
  • University where the thesis was defended/presented;
  • Supervisor’s name, last name and contact information.
