Covisint CSO to Detail How Oil & Gas Orgs Can Defend Against Advanced, Persistent Threats (APTs)

Session to Highlight the Depth and Cost of APTs and What Organizations Can Do to Thwart Attacks

DETROIT, March 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Covisint Corporation (Nasdaq:COVS), provider of the leading cloud engagement platform, today announced that its Chief Security Officer, David Miller, will highlight the core challenges of advanced persistent threats (APTs) facing today's businesses. Miller's presentation, titled Using Cyber Intelligence to Find & Neutralize the Latest Threats in Time, will take place at the Cyber Security Management for Oil and Gas summit in Houston, Texas.

The U.S. energy sector was hit harder by targeted cyber-attacks than any other industry recently, accounting for 41 percent of the cases reported to the Department of Homeland Security. The Cyber Security Summit for Oil & Gas brings together cyber security experts to help oil and gas professionals address these challenges and successfully achieve and manage secure systems.

In his session, Miller will break down the core elements of APTs, emerging threats and best practice case studies. He also will discuss how deep the problem is, what companies have done to successfully address APTs and how organizations can make it as difficult as possible for an attacker to compromise and subsequently reside in internal networks. He will specifically address:

  1. How APTs are everyone's problem. No target is too small, too obscure, too well-known or too vulnerable;
  2. This is a war of attrition. And, the enemy has extensive resources, equipped for a long fight that never really ends;
  3. How and why information is stolen. Including for economic, political and strategic advantages by establishing and maintaining an "occupying force" within their target's trusted environment.

"APTs can be exponentially problematic, invasive and costly, not only to the bottom-line but also to organizational trust," said Miller. "These threats can only be addressed and overcome with a deep understanding of an organization's vulnerabilities -- including vulnerabilities that would normally not be considered. Attendees will receive information that will help them identify the threats and mitigate the damage."

Who should attend: VPs of technology, security and identity; energy management professionals and executives; CSOs, CIOs, directors, managers and security technicians; and anyone interested in how the cloud can effectively and efficiently be leveraged to address advanced persistent threats

When, where: Miller's APT thought leadership presentation will take place at 11:15 a.m. Central on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency in Houston, Texas
