SAN DIEGO, March 19, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WomanCare Global is pleased to announce that Kelly Culwell, MD, MPH, has joined WomanCare Global as Chief Medical Officer.

As a trained gynecologist and obstetrician, Dr. Culwell has worked extensively, both in research and practice, to break down the barriers between women and their access to reproductive health services, including contraception and safe abortion. Dr. Culwell is a Volunteer Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Diego and Davis campuses, and has published widely in journals including Contraception, the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Her work includes the development of global guidelines for clinical practice and frequent lectures for medical students and healthcare providers. Dr. Culwell completed her medical training and residency at the University of California, Davis and University of California, San Diego, respectively. She earned a Master of Public Health from Northwestern University, where she also completed a fellowship in family planning and contraception.
Dr. Culwell was a Medical Adviser and then Consultant to the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and prior to that, she served as a Medical Officer with the World Health Organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. In addition to serving as WomanCare Global's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Culwell will continue to serve in her current role as Senior Medical Advisor for EngenderHealth and as the Medical Director of the Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, a position she has held since August 2013.
