Photo Release -- SECU Supports Local Home-State Jobs With Major Purchase of Lenovo PCs

RALEIGH, N.C., March 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Helping to keep jobs in North Carolina, State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) has contracted with Lenovo to purchase 8,000 energy efficient PCs to replace existing units in its network of 253 branches and 5 operations centers. All units will be assembled in Lenovo's Guilford County operations facility in Whitsett, N.C. Having a base in SECU's home state was an important factor in deciding to do business with Lenovo.

"Lenovo's commitment to both the U.S. and North Carolina has never been stronger," said Tom Looney, Lenovo Vice President and General Manager of North America. "Our North American headquarters is located in Morrisville, N.C. on a campus that employs over 2,200. Lenovo's second North Carolina facility in Whitsett was established in 2008, which expanded to include a manufacturing line for its legendary Think-branded products in October 2012, leading to the addition of 115 manufacturing jobs. State Employees' Credit Union and Lenovo share a vested interest in improving the local economy in North Carolina and we are pleased to provide assembly for the SECU desktops in the Whitsett facility."

Lenovo's unique PC product solution, while tailored to meet the requirements and timeline of the Credit Union, also offers the advantages of reduced power consumption, an increased life cycle, space savings and quieter operation. These energy efficient Lenovo hardware features further benefit not only SECU members, but also their environment.

Fred Hill, SECU's SVP of Information Services Engineering commented, "Contracting with companies that have a base where members live and work is extremely important because of the positive benefits to North Carolina's workforce and the local economy. Additionally, the Lenovo PCs exceed ENERGY STAR specifications, providing greater efficiency and long-term cost savings for the Credit Union."
