Funeral Industry's Environmental Impact Revealed in Infographic

Qeepr.com has launched the first infographic to depict the major environmental detriments caused by burial and cremation traditions in the United States, and donates "shares" to The David Suzuki Foundation.

MONTREAL, March 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The social memorialization website Qeepr.com (http://www.qeepr.com/) has published an infographic that outlines the natural resources and energy used in burial and cremation practices in the North American funeral industry. Statistics based on consumption from the United States alone includes over 800,000 gallons of Formaldehyde annually, casket wood that could build 4.6 million homes, and enough fossil fuel used in cremation to drive a car halfway to the sun every year. The infographic puts the statistical findings into perspective using lively graphics and relatable comparisons, allowing readers to easily grasp the environmental realities of western funeral practices.

Qeepr stands out as an innovative company in the bereavement industry by offering QR Code plaques to be placed on memorial sites, that when scanned, links to a memorial page for the departed. Founder, Mandy Benoualid explains that "while researching the types of funerary monuments our customers could place our QeepR Codes, we discovered green alternatives to traditional headstones offered by the funeral industry. Delving further into the need for a green alternative, we were shocked to discover the amount of resources and energy currently required to support traditional funerals in North America. We took the initiative to share our findings in order to raise awareness, as well as to provide easy and economic alternatives. We believe our QeepR Codes are a great alternative that can turn the simplest grave marker into a living monument."

"Request donations to a carbon fund " is one of the green alternatives proposed by Qeepr in the new infographic to reduce your ecological footprint. In order to reduce their own footprint and to incentivize followers to spread the word, Qeepr will be donating 10 cents for every Facebook "share" of their post (https://www.facebook.com/qeeprofficial) during the launch week of the infographic from today, March 24th at 1pm EST until 5pm EST March 28th to The David Suzuki Foundation.
