Covisint Named "Major Player" in IDC MarketScape on Identity Management

Support of Innovative Projects, Flexible Pricing Listed as Distinct Competitive Advantages in Independent Research

DETROIT, April 2, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Covisint Corporation (Nasdaq:COVS), provider of the leading cloud engagement platform, today announced that it was named a "major player" by independent analyst firm IDC in the just-published report: IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Federated Identity Management and Single Sign-On 2014 Vendor Assessment (IDC #247097, March 2014).

The report, which examined quantitative and qualitative characteristics of 13 competitive vendors, considered several "success factors," including:

  • The ability to leverage new technologies such as cloud, mobility, big data and social media to develop new identity-aware solutions and secure business models and incorporate LOB managers into the identity lifecycle;
  • Development of unique, ease-of-use and customizable capabilities around both horizontal and industry-specific opportunities;
  • Continued expansion into emerging markets such as Eastern Europe, Asia/Pacific and Latin America, where lack of existing infrastructure often makes implementation and deployment easier for both vendor and customer; and, among others,
  • A focus on consistent operational excellence, which includes consistent delivery of services and capabilities at regional and global levels and through both direct and indirect distribution channels.

The report states that: "Since its inception in 2000, Covisint has offered a 100% cloud-based solution with a proven track record and sees itself ahead of its main competitors in terms of enterprise-grade deployment expertise and scale. IDC believes that based on the company's track record in both cloud-based delivery models and federated identities, Covisint is in a strong position to continue to grow market share in larger organizations. Covisint has grown well beyond its roots in the automotive industry, with an increasing presence in the healthcare industry, as well as expanding across core global enterprises in various markets."

IDC independently interviewed several Covisint customers, one of whom said: "One of the things that Covisint had was a 'per authentication' model where we were able to pay per use rather than per user. It was a significant cost advantage for our type of use."

The IDC report (http://bit.ly/PdYppa) also noted: "In addition, Covisint was noted for its support of challenging, innovative projects."

"Without identity management, there really is no cloud -- at least not a cloud that the vast majority of people would trust," said Dave Miller, Covisint's Chief Security Officer. "Covisint makes it easy for our customers to deliver a simple, integrated and secure digital experience to everyone that matters in their value chain: customers, business partners, suppliers and employees. This independent IDC research further validates Covisint's cloud identity leadership and the importance we place on securing the identities of 20 million users globally."

Covisint centralizes and automates processes surrounding the exposure, acceptance and monitoring of digital identities across security domains. Covisint radically improves speed-to-value by giving organizations a frictionless platform for identity and access management (IdM) to cloud and on-premise applications.
