NEW YORK, April 4, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The pressure-packed intersection of crisis management and litigation will be addressed by some of America's top experts on crisis litigation later this month at "Crisis Mitigation: Preparing for an Navigating Fallout from Catastrophic Events," a full-day CLE seminar. Presented by ALM's The National Law Journal and The Legal Times, the event will be held on April 29, 2014, at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The keynote speakers will be Kenneth R. Feinberg, founder and managing partner of Feinberg Rozen LLP, and Brad Kieserman, chief counsel of the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA).
Mr. Feinberg has been appointed to administer numerous high-profile compensation programs, including news this week that he has been retained by General Motors to "explore and evaluate options in its response to families of accident victims whose vehicles are being recalled for possible ignition switch defects," according to a GM statement.
Mr. Feinberg has served as Special Master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, TARP Executive Compensation, the Agent Orange Victim Compensation Program, the Gulf Coast Claims Facility to compensate victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and most recently the One Fund Boston Victim Relief Fund established to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon attacks of April 15, 2013.
Mr. Kieserman began serving as the chief counsel of FEMA in March 2010, advising the Administrator and all of FEMA's directorates on legal matters related to agency programs and operations. Prior to coming to FEMA, Kieserman served as Associate General Counsel for Operations and Enforcement in the Department of Homeland Security's Office of the General Counsel. In that role, Kieserman's portfolio included emergency and incident management, use of force, counterterrorism operations, law enforcement authorities and activities, international operations, border-, aviation-, maritime-, and transportation-related security, and screening and credentialing programs. Kieserman led the DHS operational legal team responding to the H1N1 outbreak in 2009, the 2009 Christmas Day bombing attempt of Northwest Flight #253, and the response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
In addition to a variety of sessions related to crisis response, business continuity and disaster recovery, the seminar will feature a timely session focused on the importance of understanding corporate exposure to cyber crime and data security vulnerabilities. The cyber crime session will feature a panel of distinguished experts including Tom Finan, Senior Cybersecurity Strategist and Counsel, for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
