The 300+ anticipated executive attendees will focus on strategic planning and management 'know-how' needed to adapt and succeed in California's changing health and human service landscape

GETTYSBURG, PA., April 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OPEN MINDS is pleased to announce Bernard Tyson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kaiser Permanente, will deliver the opening keynote address at the inaugural OPEN MINDS California Planning & Performance Management Institute, the only executive event focused on helping leadership teams to position and prepare their organizations to succeed in a changing health and human service market. The two-day education institute will be held on August 20-21, 2014 at the Marriott Mission Valley in San Diego, California.

Mr. Tyson, a San Francisco Bay Area native, has 30 years of hospital and health plan experience with Kaiser Permanente, which serves approximately 9.1 million members. He has managed all major aspects of the organization, serving in roles from hospital administrator to division president while leading Kaiser Permanente's operations in California and in its other regions. Prior to assuming the role of CEO in July 2013, he served as president and chief operating officer.

"In the nearly four years since the passage of health care reform, we've seen fundamental shifts in the health and human service market. Increased enrollment in health plans, a focus on integrated care for complex consumers, new tech-enabled services, and shifting relationships between payers and providers are reshaping strategy and management," said Monica E. Oss, OPEN MINDS Chief Operating Officer. "Mr. Tyson's session, The Payer Perspective On Models For Provider Collaboration In A Changing Health Care Market, will provide executives at the institute with first-hand insights on these changes and how Kaiser Permanente is addressing the issues in California."

The 2014 OPEN MINDS California Planning & Performance Management Institute will be presented in partnership with San Diego-based Mental Health Systems. The institute is designed for the leadership teams of payer and provider organizations serving consumers with complex needs, including organizations focused on mental health and addiction treatment; chronic disease management; child welfare, family preservation, and juvenile justice; disability supports, home/community-based services, and long-term care; social services; and adult corrections.

"This institute is designed with two distinct components – a track focused on the best practices that are shaping health and human services across the globe and a track highlighting how those best practices are applied successfully in a changing California market. With our partner, Mental Health Systems, we are bringing our participants the best of cutting-edge business practices and the deep knowledge of how to apply those practices in California," adds Oss.
