Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada

TORONTO, April 11, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Autism Speaks Canada has selected Hunter Bondy to serve as National Honorary Chair for this year's Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada fundraising events.

Hunter is a 12 year old boy who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 ½. Hunter is a warm, kind and affectionate boy who loves soccer, Lego and spending time with his family.  Hunter is participating in the Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada:  London walk which is taking place on June 22, 2014.

As Autism Speaks Canada's single most important fundraising event to raise funds for research, services, advocacy and awareness for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families, Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada 2014 is poised to have a greater impact.

We are excited to announce the expansion of the walk events from 7 cities to 9 as well as the launch of the virtual walk that can talk place anywhere, anytime.  With a fundraising goal of $1.6 million, we anticipate engaging over 13,000 walkers and volunteers during our walk season.  We look forward to mobilizing communities throughout the country to celebrate individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families and come together as a community.

"Since 2010, Autism Speaks Canada has granted over $2,000,000 to service providers across the country and $3,400,000 to Canadian science & research and theses grants were paid from Canadian fundraising dollars," said Jill Farber, Executive Director, Autism Speaks Canada.  "With the prevalence rate of 1 in 68, which represents an increase of 15% a year for the last 2 years, our needs have never been more urgent."
