VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 14, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nevada Sunrise Gold Corporation ("Nevada Sunrise" or the "Company") (TSXV:NEV) announced today that Warren W. Stanyer has accepted a full-time position as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective April 1, 2014. He has served as interim President and Chief Executive Officer for Nevada Sunrise since August 2013. Mr. Stanyer will step down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company and Mr. Michael D. Sweatman, a director of the Company, has accepted the position of non-executive Chairman.
Mr. Stanyer, a mineral exploration industry professional, has acted as a director or officer of several public mineral exploration companies since 1996. He served as Vice-President, Corporate Development, and Corporate Secretary for Pioneer Metals Corp. until it was acquired by Barrick Gold Corp. in 2006, and in the same positions for UEX Corporation until June 2007. Mr. Stanyer was employed as President and CEO of Northern Continental Resources Inc. from June 2008, until it was acquired by Hathor Exploration Ltd. in November 2009. Currently, he serves as a director for Nevada Sunrise, Alpha Exploration Inc., Fission Uranium Corp., and New Moon Minerals Corp., an unlisted reporting issuer.
Michael D. Sweatman brings a combination of practical, accounting and taxation perspectives to the Company. He is a Chartered Accountant. He worked for Noranda and Cassiar Asbestos in the mid-1970s at the Bell Copper and Clinton Creek mines, and later completed his BA (Commerce/ Economics) at Simon Fraser University. He obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1982 and currently operates his own accounting practice, and MDS Management Ltd., a business providing management consulting services. Since 1992, Mr Sweatman has served as a director or officer of a number of TSX and TSXV public companies, and currently serves as a director of Brownstone Energy Inc., Mega Uranium Ltd., Mega Precious Metals Inc., Red Hut Metals Inc., Cortez Gold Corp. and Teslin River Resources Corp. He has participated in a number of successful merger and qualifying transactions, and serves as member and Chairman of several Audit Committees.
