The international recruitment process announced by Marimekko on 5 February 2014 has been completed. Anna Teurnell has been appointed as the new Creative Director of Marimekko and member of the company's Management Group as of 15 July 2014.

Anna Teurnell is currently Head of Design for the fashion brand & Other Stories with responsibility for the design of all fashion lines and leading the design teams in Paris and Stockholm. She has been involved from the beginning in building this brand which offers diversified fashion collections designed with great attention to detail and quality. Anna Teurnell has graduated from Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm and has worked for the Hennes & Mauritz Group in several key roles in brand management and design. She also has experience in print design for fashion.

Anna Teurnell will lead Marimekko's design team and be responsible for the company's design strategy for fashion, bags and accessories as well as home products. Minna Kemell-Kutvonen, previous Creative Director of Marimekko, will continue in the design team with responsibility for print design.

"I think that Anna Teurnell has the perfect background to lead our design team given our ambition to become one of the most fascinating design brands in the world in our field. Under her leadership we will focus on taking our fashion, bag and accessory assortment to a higher level and continue to develop our home product range further. Anna Teurnell's artistic vision, international experience and Nordic background are a great combination to help us meet our high ambitions. I am also pleased that Minna Kemell-Kutvonen will now be concentrating on further strengthening our core competence, print design,” says Mika Ihamuotila, President and CEO.

"I am very excited to join the Marimekko family. I grew up with Marimekko and have had a genuine fondness for it my whole life. I also had the pleasure of getting to know it more closely when I was in charge of H&M's Tribute to Marimekko collection launched for summer 2008. To me, the positive Marimekko spirit stems from a unique marriage of Nordic elements.
I am highly motivated to start working with my new team to make Marimekko’s print, colour and product design even more appealing," states Anna Teurnell.

As a result of its international expansion in recent years, Marimekko is now serving an ever wider customer base. The company aims to fulfil the needs of this growing group of friends of Marimekko while remaining true to its Finnish and Nordic roots. Another important aim is to find new materials and to increase the share of ecological materials in Marimekko’s collections.
