BayWa subsidiary Turners & Growers Ltd. announces the acquisition of Apollo
Apples Ltd.
BayWa subsidiary Turners & Growers Ltd. (T&G), a world-wide operating
exporter and producer of fresh fruit, based in New Zealand, has today
agreed upon the acquisition of Apollo Apples Ltd., a leading producer and
exporter of apples, based in New Zealand, with its shareholders.
The effectiveness of the take-over is subject to certain conditions
including the approval by the Overseas Investment Office (OIO) of New
Zealand, which deals with foreign investments. In addition, the assignment
of certain material contracts still has to be implemented.
The purchase price for the company is NZ$36.05 million (approx. EUR23
million) plus a performance-based premium. The take-over also includes the
acquisition of the title and the leasehold rights to a total of approx. 500
hectares of crop area in the Hawke's Bay region. The annual trading volume
of Apollo is 25,000 tonnes of apples. As a result, the share of the
companies held by BayWa in apple exports from New Zealand will increase to
35%.
Apollo Apples Ltd. was incorporated in 2006 in the course of the merger of
Apollo Fruit Ltd. and United Fruit Packers HB Ltd. (Unipac). The company
currently employs approx. 120 members of staff.
