WASHINGTON, April 17, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) congratulates Alejandra Castillo on her appointment as the new Director of the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA).

Castillo – a practicing attorney with over 20 years of experience – is the first Hispanic to lead the Agency, and only the second woman in MBDA's 45-year history.

"On behalf of America's small business community, I applaud Secretary Pritzker's visionary leadership in selecting Alejandra Castillo to lead the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). Ms. Castillo's extensive experience in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors makes her the ideal National Director for the MBDA. Ms. Castillo's leadership will strengthen American job creation and support the global expansion of U.S. minority-owned businesses currently contributing over $1 trillion annually to the U.S. economy. The USHCC looks forward to collaborating with Ms. Castillo in her new capacity," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez.

Previously, Castillo served as MBDA's National Deputy Director managing the Agency's daily operations and its national network of more than 44 business centers across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

In 2013, MBDA assisted minority-owned businesses in obtaining more than $4.8 billion in capital and contract awards, which led to the creation of nearly 26,000 jobs -- the highest performance level in the Agency's 45-year history.
