CHICAGO, April 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LKQ Corporation (Nasdaq:LKQ) celebrates Earth Day by working with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 10,000 trees through our annual LKQ Get Green promotion.
The trees will be planted in honor of those who won a tree in the 2014 LKQ Get Green promotion that ended on April 17, 2014. To participate in the promotion customers entered spin codes for a chance to win instantly and be automatically entered into a sweepstakes drawing to win the 2014 Green Car of the Year, Honda™ Accord.
The LKQ Get Green promotion is centered on Earth Day to encourage customers to participate in environmentally friendly practices. LKQ is dedicated to doing our part for the environment through a companywide green initiative to support a cleaner environment. Approximately 82% of each salvage vehicle by weight is recycled and the reusable parts are offered to customers at low-cost, environmentally friendly repair options.
LKQ is working with the Arbor Day Foundation to donate 10,000 trees in Bastrop, Texas as part of The Lost Pines Forest Community Tree Recovery Campaign. On September 4th, 2011 the Bastrop County Complex fire destroyed more than 32,000 acres of land, 96% of Bastrop State Park, and over 1,600 homes. This wildfire was the single most destructive in Texas' history.
This donation will help the Arbor Day Foundation in their efforts to replant more than 4 million new loblolly pine trees throughout Bastrop, TX. Since 2010, LKQ has supported the planting of over 30,000 trees through the Arbor Day Foundation.
