The Berry Company and The Boy Scouts Collect Nearly 50,000 Pounds of Outdated Telephone Directories in Lincoln for Recycling

LINCOLN, Neb., April 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Berry Company collected nearly 50,000 pounds of outdated telephone directories for recycling in Lincoln through the sixth-annual Think Yellow, Go Green program. The Cornhusker Council Boy Scouts, Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department and Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska, Inc. partnered with Berry on the month-long environmental awareness campaign, which encourages the local community to recycle their outdated directories as the 2014 Windstream Yellow Pages were distributed in Lincoln.

The nearly 50,000 pounds of outdated telephone directories, which were collected door-to-door by the Cornhusker Council Boy Scouts and dropped off by local residents at several parks and recreation centers in Lincoln, will be recycled and converted into reusable materials by Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska.

"Earth Day is an ideal time to recognize the Lincoln community, which year after year has helped us to keep outdated telephone directories out of the local landfills through recycling," said Laura Cole, vice president, Marketing, for Berry. "We are so grateful to our partners and the Lincoln residents as each directory we recycle helps us protect the local environment."

Consumers use multiple sources when they are looking for local products and services, according to a Booth research study conducted last year. People turn to the Yellow Pages, but they also turn to other online, mobile and social media for local search. In fact, the recent research indicates that 90 percent of consumers use the Windstream Yellow Pages and 87 percent prefer it when compared to the competition. The Berry Company has transformed its approach to help advertisers ensure they are accessible wherever consumers are searching. The company's legacy is in print directories but it also provides online directories, web sites, search engine marketing, video and more.
