Mediacom Communications to Significantly Boost Residential Internet Speeds for Flagship Services at No Additional Cost

MEDIACOM PARK, N.Y., April 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mediacom Communications announced today the deployment of significantly faster Internet speeds for residential customers. This marks the eighth time in the past decade that Mediacom has increased Internet speeds, in each case without raising prices. As a result of this latest round of improvements:

  • 'Prime Plus' service will offer speeds of up to 50 Mbps downstream (formerly 30 Mbps), and up to 5 Mbps upstream (formerly 2 Mbps).
  • 'Ultra' service will see its speed double, offering up to 100 Mbps downstream (formerly 50 Mbps) and up to 10 Mbps upstream (formerly 5 Mbps).
  • 'Ultra Plus' service will offer speeds of up to 150 Mbps downstream (formerly 105 Mbps) and up to 20 Mbps upstream (formerly 10 Mbps).

The changes will take effect across all of Mediacom's markets in early June for the 'Prime Plus' and 'Ultra' tiers, and will be phased in throughout the summer for 'Ultra Plus,' as it becomes available in most of Mediacom's markets.

"These latest enhancements, along with the recently launched 305 Mbps tier in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, underscore Mediacom's long-term commitment to deliver Internet service that is among the fastest in the nation, and to maintain our market leadership in the smaller cities and towns we serve," said JR Walden, Mediacom's Senior Vice President of Technology.

"Customers today are more frequently connected to multiple Internet-dependent devices in their homes, creating an ever-growing demand for fast and reliable Internet connectivity," said Tapan Dandnaik, Mediacom's Senior Vice President for Customer Service. "Faster speeds and advanced home networking gateways give Mediacom customers the ability to simultaneously access bandwidth-intensive content over multiple devices, making it easier to get more value and satisfaction from their Internet experience."
