BCG Builds Its Public Sector Practice by Hiring Operations Expert Scott Hefter

Senior Executive Brings Extensive Consulting Experience and Knowledge of Operations and Strategy to Improving Efficiency and Effectiveness in Government

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - May 8, 2014) - The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) announced today that Scott Hefter has joined its growing Public Sector practice as a partner and managing director based in the firm's Washington office. With more than 25 years of experience advising both public- and private-sector institutions, Hefter will provide innovative strategic thinking combined with a pragmatic understanding of how government actually works to help bring about major change in public-sector organizations.

Hefter comes to BCG from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he led both its U.S. management-consulting practice and its global-analytics business. In 2012, Consulting magazine named him one of the top 25 most influential consultants. At BCG, Hefter will focus on applying successful private-sector strategies to public-sector clients, in the United States and globally.

"Scott is a great addition to the team," said Sharon Marcil, a Washington-based senior partner who leads BCG's Public Sector practice in North America. "He brings a wealth of corporate and government experience that will prove invaluable to our clients. He has an outstanding track record of delivering high-impact results in the federal government as well as at the state and local levels."

Prior to working at PwC, Hefter served as CEO at PRTM, a global management consulting firm specializing in operational and IT strategy that PwC acquired in 2011. He built and ran the firm's U.S. public-sector practice in Washington for six years. Throughout his career, Hefter has led client engagements centered on operations, supply chain, strategy, IT, organization design, business transformation, service management, and senior-executive facilitation and mentorship.

"Following 9/11, I was fortunate to get involved in consulting to the public sector. I saw firsthand the incredible impact that companies, working hand in hand with government and nonprofit agencies, can make," said Hefter. "Government leaders today face huge challenges. A firm such as BCG can be an important catalyst for change, helping public-sector leaders tackle difficult, complex problems."

Hefter's government and corporate experience includes forming numerous strategic joint ventures across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Over the course of his career, he has worked with clients in more than 20 countries across a variety of industries, including private equity, technology, telecommunications, aerospace, and defense.

Hefter's arrival follows the recent hiring of another high-profile expert, Danny Werfel, who joined BCG after serving as the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. He had previously spent 16 years with the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. Both men are highly accomplished professionals who strengthen the Public Sector practice at BCG, which has provided world-class strategy and general-management advice for more than 50 years.

The BCG approach enables transformational change by applying innovative thinking and rigorous fact-based analysis to clients' most critical challenges. The firm's industry expertise and functional capabilities address a wide range of public-sector needs, including cost reduction and efficiency reviews, service delivery strategies, transformation plans, and risk assessments.
