HURST, TX, TEXAS, May 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the annual awards for Adopt-a-School Partnerships on Monday, May 5 Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District presented Victory Medical Center Mid-Cities with the award for Large Business Partnership Award for their work with the Technical Education Center. Victory Medical Center Mid-Cities partners with Technical Education Center's Health Science program, by providing first-hand learning experiences to the school's clinical rotation students, allowing them to see the delivery of healthcare in every department of the hospital.

Every Monday and Wednesday four health science students visit Victory Medical Center to conduct an hour and a half clinical rotation. One student is assigned to various departments, including: surgery, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy and the emergency department. Each student will visit four times in two weeks, for a total of six hours of observation.
"This is a great opportunity for our high school students," explained Margaret Russell, Health Science teacher and program coordinator at the Technical Education Center. "These opportunities allow students to take what they are learning in their anatomy or physiology classrooms and see the applications in the hospital via surgery or laboratory work. It's education at its best and an example of how the best learning happens when community partners join in the process to bring the lessons to life."
