CARY, N.C., May 19, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The REALTOR® Foundation of the Triangle Community Service Committee awarded three Wake County students with scholarships for $1500 and one for $500.
Susan Teeny, Chair of the Scholarship Subcommittee said, "Once again it is my honor to congratulate the well deserving recipients of the REALTOR® Foundation of the Triangle Scholarship Fund. We are so happy to provide assistance to these amazing and gifted students. We wish them the very best in all their future endeavors."
Harrison W. Ballard will graduate first in his Panther Creek High School class. Harrison plans to study Biology at Duke University to prepare for dental school. He earned a hospital internship in his sophomore and junior years and shadowed a dentist and orthodontist where he learned about the need of oral supplies in under privileged areas. He also started the Nease Dental Health Club, a nonprofit to provide oral care supplies to the needy. Harrison is awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
Madeline D. Minear: Madeline will graduate with honors from Millbrook High School. She is a member of the National Achiever's Society. She is involved in numerous community programs, including the Walnut Street Angel Tree program started by her mother. She is a student leader and assistant coach to Special Needs Cheer Team. Minear will attend UNC Wilmington and is awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
Amir A. Williams: Williams will graduate from Millbrook High School 17th of 609 students. She has been very involved in student government with leadership positions, honor societies, and athletics. She raised $1,800 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and $2,500 for the Zimbabwe Orphan Empowerment Program for victims of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She will attend Duke this Fall and is awarded a $1500 scholarship.
Madison N. Pontrelli will graduate from Wake Forest High School fourth out of 420. She has volunteered many hours and after Hurricane Sandy she raised $1700 for the American Red Cross. UNC Chapel Hill is the school of her choice where she hopes to study accounting. Pontrelli was awarded a $500 scholarship.
All four candidates have part time jobs outside of their schooling and extracurricular activities.
