The New York Society of Security Analysts to Examine the Federal Government's Campaign Against Insider Trading

A former federal prosecutor and former SEC trial enforcement attorney team up to provide an overview of insider trading and security fraud, and discuss how to protect against liability especially in those grey areas that attract increased scrutiny.


NEW YORK, N.Y., May 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - On June 12, 2014, the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) along with its Value Investing Committee are presenting In the Crosshairs: The Department of Justice and the SEC Focus on Insider Trading which examines the risks presented to security industry professionals in the face of the government's stepped-up campaign to detect and prosecute cases of insider trading.

Drawing from actual insider trading cases they have handled, Howard Elisofon and Steven Feldman will parse the complex laws surrounding insider trading and share examples of illegal insider trading behavior as well as acceptable trading conduct. They will discuss techniques employed by the SEC to build its cases and suggest "best practices" to avoid liability.

The presenters are:

  • Howard R. Elisofon, partner in Herrick's Securities and Commodities and Regulatory Practice Group. He was lead counsel in the historic lawsuit brought against the USA and SEC championing the cause of the victims of the Madoff Ponzi scheme as well as other high-profile investigations.
  • Steven Feldman, lead partner in Herrick's White Collar Defense & Investigations practice. Prior to joining Herrick, he served more than six years as an Assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan, and served on the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force.
