Ponsse introduced the new PONSSE Bear 8w harvester

Ponsse continues to upgrade its product range. Ponsse presented the completely upgraded PONSSE Bear 8w harvester to the public at the Forestry Harvesting Demo in the UK. The upgraded Bear is a strong indication of the significance of customer cooperation in the product development of forest machines. The new technical solutions enable even more powerful, reliable and ergonomic harvesting.

The 8-wheeler PONSSE Bear is the largest harvester in the Ponsse product range and an unbeatable powerhouse for thick trees and demanding conditions. The product upgrade focuses on efficiency, structural endurance and ease of maintenance and use. At the same time, Bear has seen a complete facelift.

Ergonomics and ease of use are important factors when it comes to productivity. In addition, the design of cabin structures has paid special attention to the working comfort of the driver. The completely new cabin offers plenty of storage space, the most ergonomic controls available in the market and the excellent visibility which is characteristic of all PONSSE forest machines.

The framework of the new Bear is even more durable. Changes have also been made to the crane models available for Bear, i.e. the C6 sliding boom and C55 parallel cranes, to improve durability and flexible use. Important development steps in the new PONSSE Bear include the positioning of components and service points, as well as the ease of maintenance measures, as requested by our customers. The new engine technology and the improved hydraulics have enabled extending the service intervals from 600/1200 hours to 900/1800 hours. The long service interval increases efficient working hours and reduces operating costs.

The 6-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine (260 kW/350 hp, 1400 Nm), which meets the EU Stage IV emission levels, is effective and friendly to the environment. The engine technology is based on an SCR exhaust gas after-treatment system and cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system, which significantly lowers NOx and particulate emissions. Benefits of the new technology include, along with a cleaner environment, a better response to sudden needs of power and better fuel economy. Superior working power is guaranteed by double-circuit hydraulics that supply just the right amount of power to the harvester head and crane. The new transmission and engine technology enable accurate stability control and efficient working on steeper slopes.

The new PONSSE Bear 8w is the latest addition to the new PONSSE product range, the flagship of which, PONSSE Scorpion, was introduced last year. The serial production of the PONSSE Scorpion harvester was launched at the beginning of 2014, while the serial production of the new PONSSE Bear was started at the beginning of May. The starting point for the development of the product range was the idea of a forest machine that does not compromise on the usability, productivity or maintainability of the machine.
