Santrol Commercializes Activator-Free Proppant That Sets in Low-Temperature Permian Basin Fractures

CoolSet™ curable resin-coated proppant prevents proppant flowback at reservoir temperature of 100° F

FORT WORTH, Texas, May 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Santrol, a Fairmount Minerals company, announced today the commercialization of CoolSet curable resin-coated proppant that sets in fractures to prevent proppant flowback at reservoir temperature of 100° F. This latest product offering is one of the technology differentiators Santrol is presenting at the DUG Permian Basin Conference and Exhibition in Fort Worth May 21–22.

With robust unconfined compressive strength and enhanced conductivity, 20/40 CoolSet proppant increases hydrocarbon production. The technology, which is frac fluid and breaker friendly, also ensures better crush resistance, minimized proppant embedment, and significantly reduced fines generation.

Customers can rely on sourcing this curable proppant from Santrol's eight Permian Basin terminals that now circle the vital hydrocarbon play, in addition to receiving CoolSet proppant in other important oil and gas regions, such as the Midcon. The company's distribution network includes more than 50 terminals throughout the US in all of the major conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon basins.

"CoolSet proppant allows the industry to increase hydraulic fracturing efficiency by eliminating the need for activator that, in turn, eliminates wellsite activator handling and regulatory paperwork," said Nick Johnson, vice president of Marketing for Santrol. "We're looking forward to working with customers on this better low-temperature proppant."

Santrol will also be presenting Propel SSP™ proppant transport technology at the DUG exhibition, booth 205. Propel technology increases hydrocarbon production by carrying suspended proppant farther into the fracture for substantially better propped fracture length.
