Lightbridge Senior Advisor Hans Blix to be Awarded Fulbright Prize for International Understanding

MCLEAN, Va., May 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lightbridge Corporation (Nasdaq:LTBR), a leading innovator of next generation nuclear fuel designs and provider of nuclear energy consulting services to commercial and governmental organizations, today announced that Hans Blix, Ph.D., a Lightbridge senior advisor since 2008 and former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will be awarded the prestigious J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding at the Fulbright Association's annual conference in Washington, D.C. on October 16-18, 2014.

Dr. Blix, former Foreign Minister of Sweden and Chief Weapons Inspector and Executive Chair of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission in Iraq from 2000 to 2003, will receive the Prize at a ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on Friday, October 17 in Washington, D.C.

"Dr. Hans Blix is among the greatest of international public servants and we are all in his debt for his many contributions to peace, world order, and arms limitation," said Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr., Lightbridge Executive Chairman of the Board. "He richly deserves the Fulbright Prize."

The Fulbright Prize, which includes a $50,000 award, is presented biennially to an individual or organization that has made "extraordinary contributions toward bringing peoples, cultures, or nations to a greater understanding of others," the Association said in a statement.

Previous Fulbright Prize recipients include U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bill and Melinda Gates, and the late Nelson Mandela.
