Hitachi Construction Machinery, Mitsubishi Motors, Honda R&D and Tsukuba University to Speak at Exa Japan's 7th PowerFLOW Solution Forum

BURLINGTON, Mass. and YOKOHAMA, Japan, June 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Exa® Corporation (Nasdaq:EXA), a global innovator of fluids simulation solutions for product engineering, announced the keynote speakers for its seventh Exa Japan PowerFLOW® Solution Forum to be held June 13th, 2014 at the Tokyo Conference Center Shinagawa.

The PowerFLOW Solution Forum is a conference for industry professionals seeking to learn about state-of-the-art simulation-driven design solutions from global experts. Invited speakers from leading companies will highlight their aerodynamic, thermal and acoustic simulation successes and how Exa's suite of simulation tools has been a key part of their product development process. Exa Japan will welcome the following distinguished guest presenters:

  • Mr. Kazuhisa Tamura, Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd., Chief of Research Department, will be the keynote speaker at this event. As Chief of Hitachi's Validation Center, Mr. Tamura will discuss the importance of an integrated approach to product engineering that balances simulations with physical testing. He will elaborate on Hitachi's deployment of Exa's thermal solutions, and the future of fluid analysis simulation in construction and equipment development. Mr. Tamura will discuss how, given increasing environmental regulations and safety standards, Exa simulations are a key to their product development process to achieve the performance and quality goals Hitachi demands.
  • Mr. Yasuhiko Okutsu, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, will highlight Mitsubishi's evaluation of automotive side mirror noise though aerodynamic and aeroacoustic simulation — focusing on minimizing vehicle noise for maximum passenger comfort early in the design process.
  • Mr. Takeshi Asai, Tsukuba University, has performed extensive analysis using Exa PowerFLOW software for sports innovation. Mr. Asai will present his aerodynamic results of the effect of the dihedral angle on ski jump body suits and aerodynamically optimizing the newly engineered, 2014 World Cup soccer ball using Exa's Lattice Boltzmann-based physics.
  • Mr. Koauke Masuzawa, Honda R&D Co., Ltd. Automobile R&D Center, Mr. Masuzawa will discuss how Honda R&D is tackling the complicated problem of thermal efficiency in vehicle cabins. Mr. Masuzawa's team has been successful in demonstrating the impact of how early stage evaluation using simulation solvers capable of long term unsteady prediction, like Exa PowerFLOW and PowerTHERM®, can achieve accurate results.

In addition to these distinguished guests, global experts from Exa Corporation will highlight real world, state-of-the-art simulation application discussions including: creating fuel efficient designs though aero/thermal simulation; assessing total vehicle noise though aeroacoustic simulation to improve passenger comfort; and optimizing designs efficiently through automated design space exploration.

"Achieving product efficiency though cost-effective simulation is a topic that all manufacturers are interested in," commented Kazuhito Ishikawa, Vice President, Asia, Exa Corporation. "We are pleased to bring such a distinguished group of experts together to present at our 7th PowerFLOW Forum. Our global customers are always finding new, innovative ways to maximize the benefits of simulation throughout their product development process, and we are honored to have them share their successes at our seminar."
