Entropic Featured in Advanced Television's RDK Roundtable

Entropic's Open RDK Platform Enables Operators and OEMs to Develop Applications Once and Deploy Them Across Multiple Set-Top Devices in Record Times

LONDON, June 23, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, today announced its participation on the Advanced Television RDK (Reference Design Kit) roundtable in London. This roundtable, led by Advanced Television's Editor-in-Chief Nick Snow, will address the RDK opportunity to be the global standard for IP integration and the reliable route to TV Everywhere for cable networks. Entropic's Vice President of Marketing, Roger Gregory will provide the system-on-a-chip (SoC) perspective to RDK innovation, growth and key milestones for global expansion.

An early licensee of the RDK, Entropic offers its Open RDK SoC platform, which is comprised of its ARM®-based SoCs and Software Development Kit (SDK). It is the first RDK-focused SoC solution to leverage the OpenEmbedded core technology and the Yocto Project™ development environment, which maximizes the commonality of code used on different set-top devices and allows operators implementing the RDK the opportunity to minimize software diversity in their set-top devices. This in turn makes the RDK architecture agnostic and lets operators save significant time and resources on application development by increasing the reuse of software.

"As a SoC provider, we have a great opportunity to help the cable market move forward in both innovation and the velocity at which new subscriber services are deployed," said Roger Gregory. "Entropic's Open RDK platform ensures RDK implementations are fully-accessible across multiple device types. By offering a truly transparent, hardware-agnostic platform, we are enabling operators and OEMs to develop applications once and deploy them across multiple set-top devices in record times."

The RDK is a pre-integrated software bundle that provides a common framework for powering customer-premises equipment (CPE) from TV service providers, including set-top boxes, gateways, and converged devices. It was created to accelerate the deployment of next-gen video products and services. The RDK is supported by more than 140 licensees, and is administered by RDK Management LLC, a joint venture between Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, and Liberty Global.

The Advanced Television RDK roundtable will be a taped session on Monday, June 23, 2014, and will air online via the Advanced Television website. Panel highlights will also be captured in the September/October issue of Euromedia Magazine, which will be distributed at IBC.
