OTTAWA EMERGENCY & PROTECTIVE SERVICES GM HONOURED WITH AMCTO PRESTIGE AWARD


MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, June 23, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Susan Jones, CMO, General Manager, Emergency & Protective Services for the City of Ottawa, is the recipient of the 2014 Prestige Award from AMCTO (the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario). Ms. Jones was presented with the Award at AMCTO's 76th Annual Conference held in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

AMCTO is the largest municipal professional association in Ontario. AMCTO presents the Prestige Award annually to a member in recognition of a career of outstanding commitment to the ideals of the Association, and to endeavours which raise the profile of the municipal profession.

Described by her peers as a determined visionary and strategic leader, Susan Jones has been involved in protective services for over 31 years. Susan's impressive management portfolio includes: fire services, paramedic services, by-law and regulatory services and security and emergency management. Susan has helped bring about major policy shifts that have made her municipality the North American leader in smoke-free public places, accessible taxi-cab services and an integrated emergency services department.

Encouraging more women to pursue careers in Emergency & Protective Services is a passion of Jones. She helped establish Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training) which provides an opportunity for high school girls to participate in front line fire service training. She also conducts presentations to female high school and college students encouraging them to consider this career track. Jones also acts as mentor to many Ottawa staff.

Susan joined AMCTO in 2002 and became involved in various Association initiatives including championing the establishment of the Municipal Licensing and Enforcement Project Team which brought together AMCTO and three other municipal staff associations.

Susan's commitment to her community is equally impressive, including: Board member for a local Minor Football Association; fund raising in support of families affected by cancer; Co-Chair for the annual United Way Campaign; helped launch and serves as a Director of Fire Service Women Ontario.
