MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Michelle Smibert, CMO, Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality of Middlesex Centre, was sworn in as President of AMCTO (the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario) during the Closing Ceremonies of the Association's 76th Annual Conference held in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Founded in 1938, AMCTO is Ontario's largest municipal professional association, and the leading professional development organization for administrative and management staff in municipal government.

Michelle Smibert has been involved in the municipal sector for close to 24 years. Prior to her position as CAO of Middlesex Centre, Michelle's previous senior municipal leadership roles have included: serving as Clerk for Thames Centre, the City of London, and the City of Stratford. The AMCTO Board recently concluded a competitiveness and relevance review resulting in a refined organizational focus on Municipal Management and Leadership development and support. During Smibert's inaugural address she articulated the Association's new focus and issued a challenge to the AMCTO membership: "It is incumbent on all of us to be great leaders and managers within our organizations – whether you are a formal leader or informal leader." She further implored; "Let's take AMCTO's Municipal Experts brand to the next level - to become the greatest leaders and the greatest managers we can be. AMCTO is the "go-to" organization for municipal leadership and management development and will support you in every way."

Said Middlesex Centre Mayor, Al Edmondson: "It is most definitely an honour, but not a surprise, that Michelle Smibert, our CAO, would be chosen as President of AMCTO, a very highly regarded organization. We know that she is delighted to have this opportunity to serve, and we also know that you will be delighted with the work she is capable of."

Michelle is married and has three teenaged children, all involved in sporting activities. She enjoys jogging and cooking in her spare time.

At the Board of Director's meeting on June 11th, 2014, Chris Wray, CAO/Clerk-Treasurer, for the Municipality of Wawa, was named as AMCTO's Vice President for the 2014 – 2015 term.
