Silvercar's hassle-free car rental service skips the counters and arrives at PHX

The app-based service with an all-Audi fleet now available at the 10th busiest airport in US, with more airports on the way

AUSTIN, Texas, June 25, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Silvercar, an all-Audi airport car rental service, opened at Phoenix Sky Harbor Int'l Airport earlier this week. PHX arrives as Silvercar's 6th location, alongside Los Angeles Int'l (LAX), San Francisco Int'l (SFO), Dallas-Fort Worth Int'l (DFW) Dallas Love-Field (DAL), and Austin-Bergstrom Int'l (AUS). Phoenix is the first of three additional airport markets the company plans to open this summer.

"We have an incredibly passionate user base and enjoy some of the best loyalty rankings in travel," says CEO Luke Schneider, "It's important to us and our customers that that we continue to expand and deliver service where they are traveling. PHX is at the top of that list."

"We married the best of modern smartphone technology with a world-class Audi product to eliminate the frustration points we too often experience when renting a car at the airport. When people get off the plane they don't want to wait in another line or go to another counter. So we eliminated lines and counters. People don't like insurance or fuel package upsells either. So we eliminated those too. And maybe best of all, we've absolutely done away with that bit of travel dread that comes with not knowing the car you're going to get when you show up at the airport. Your car is a silver Audi A4, every time."

How does it work? Upon landing at PHX, travelers use the Silvercar mobile app to notify the local Silvercar concierge team of their arrival with the tap of a button. From that point, the app navigates the customer through the airport—with the ability to text with the concierge team—to the pickup point where an awaiting concierge valets the customer to the Silvercar location two minutes away. Customers then use the mobile app to unlock their own silver Audi A4 by scanning a QR code on the vehicle's windshield. The keys are waiting inside and the customer is able to drive right off. "Silvercar is a bit of Uber meets Virgin America meets Audi all-in-one—designed to simplify and upgrade the airport car rental experience," Schneider added.

Each Silvercar is equipped with Google Earth GPS navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, in-car Wi-Fi and a toll tag, all at no additional charge. A simple fuel plan streamlines the return process by charging customers the local market rate for the precise amount of fuel they've used, plus a five-dollar service fee. The receipt is automatically emailed to the customer upon return and also available in the mobile app.

Silvercar is currently offering an introductory rate at PHX for $59 a day, normally $89 on weekdays and $59 on weekends. Earlier this month, the company announced Miami International Airport was next on its launch schedule. Additional details will be announced on its blog later this month.
