Northrop Grumman Hosts School Visit at RAF Waddington International Air Show, UK

LONDON – July 3, 2014 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will be hosting more than 20 Year 10 pupils from Witham Academy, Lincoln, at the RAF Waddington International Air Show as part of the company's programme of activities to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in schools.

Northrop Grumman is participating as the principal industry sponsor at the air show which takes place at from July 5-6. Northrop Grumman provides the whole life support, including maintenance, modification and life-cycle sustainment services, for the E-3D Sentry fleet of airborne early warning and control aircraft based at RAF Waddington.

The company has been working closely with Witham Academy on initiatives aimed at encouraging interest in STEM subjects.

During their visit to the air show the students will tour the E-3D Sentry aircraft on display, the hangar where aircraft maintenance and modernisation activities are undertaken, the engine bay workshop and also a full-scale model of Northrop Grumman's Global Hawk high altitude long endurance unmanned aircraft.

"We have strong and growing relationships with local schools aimed at encouraging interest in STEM," said Kevin Longman, programme director UK AWACS, Northrop Grumman. "We are pleased to be providing this opportunity for students to spend a day at the air show and give them insights into our capabilities in unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft maintenance, modernisation and support. I hope the  visit  will be both enjoyable and stimulating."

Two Year 10 pupils together with a science teacher from Witham Academy were selected earlier this year to receive sponsorships to attend Space Camp® at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) in Huntsville, Alabama, courtesy of the Northrop Grumman Foundation. This followed a school competition in which they had to design a space centre.

The pupils will join nearly 100 students and teachers sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Foundation from schools local to the company's facilities across the U.S. at the week-long Space Camp® at the end of July. In addition, two students and a teacher from Bourne Academy near Northrop Grumman's facility in Market Deeping, Peterborough, have also received sponsorships from the Foundation and will be at Space Camp®.

Students will participate in activities such as rocket building and launching, experiencing weightlessness in an astronaut-training simulator and simulating space travel preparation. The teachers will attend the Space Academy for Educators, a programme designed to provide them with the tools to enhance how they use STEM concepts in the classrooms.

The Space Camp® sponsorship aims to advance excellence in STEM education by encouraging and supporting students and teachers from primary through to secondary school. This marks the fifth year that the Foundation has funded Space Camp® sponsorships.

The USSRC Space Camp® is the premier provider of authentic, inspiring and entertaining educational experiences in space science and aviation. The Space Academy for Educators amplifies that mission by using the excitement of the program to create an immersive learning environment where teachers learn new ways to present concepts in their classrooms effectively.
