OMA Reports a 9.0% Increase in June 2014 Passenger Traffic


MONTERREY, Mexico, July 7, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 9.0% in June 2014, as compared to June 2013. Domestic traffic increased 9.2%, and international traffic increased 7.0%.

Of total June traffic, 98.2% was commercial aviation and 1.8% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in twelve airports in June. The most noteworthy increases were in Monterrey (+8.2%; +38,682 passengers), San Luis Potosí (+81.3%; +10,886), and Reynosa (+33.9%; +10,030). Monterrey traffic increased principally on the Mexico City, Guadalajara, Querétaro, and Tampico routes. San Luis Potosí traffic increased on the Mexico City, Cancún, and Monterrey routes. Reynosa increased traffic on its Tijuana, Mexico City, and Monterrey routes. Traffic decreased in Zihuatanejo (-17.8%, -4,401 passengers), principally as a result of decreases on the Mexico City and Toluca routes. In June, eight new routes opened. Aeroméxico opened the Monterrey – Cancún, Monterrey – San Luis Potosí, Monterrey – Puerto Vallarta, Monterrey – San José del Cabo, and San Luis Potosí – Monterrey routes; VivaAerobus started operating the Tampico – Guadalajara and Tampico – Villahermosa routes; and TAR opened the Monterrey – Morelia route.

International traffic increased in nine airports in June. Traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+7.0%; +5,661 passengers), as a result of increased traffic on the Atlanta and Houston routes. The most significant reduction in traffic was in Zihuatanejo (--13.4%; -977 passengers), principally as a result of lower traffic on the Los Angeles route.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in June increased 2.9% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations increased 3.1% and international operations increased 1.7%.
