TUCSON, Ariz., July 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Assurance division of Sinfonía Healthcare announced today that it has opened the region's first physician-run health and wellness center exclusively for patients with mental illness. Community Partnership of Southern Arizona has contracted with Assurance to make the groundbreaking programs a reality. The Assurance Health and Wellness Center (the center), will provide a variety of medically supervised programs designed to treat the physical health issues associated with mental illness.

The Center, located at 3939 S. Park Avenue, is exclusively for CPSA members under the care of a community service provider and diagnosed with a mental illness. Members served by the center will receive medical care, diagnostic lab and blood work and attend an intensive nine-week wellness program designed to teach disease management and healthy living. Daily classes will be offered in nutrition, healthy cooking, exercise, stress management, weight loss, tobacco cessation, disease management, identifying community resources and health education.

Care coordinators will ensure that the Center's treatment goals are incorporated in the patients' overall treatment plan.

The integration of medical care with behavioral health care is a significant goal for Southern Arizona and the CPSA system. This is the first time the community has had a medically supervised wellness center dedicated to patients suffering from mental illness.

Assurance is an operating division of Sinfonía Healthcare, the company launched by Fletcher J. McCusker, former CEO of Providence Service Corporation (Nasdaq:PRSC). Coincidently, Providence's first contract was with CPSA in 1997.
