REALTOR(R) Foundation Sets Record: Collects Nearly 17,000 Diapers for Community Babies

CARY, N.C., July 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The REALTOR® Foundation of the Triangle (RFT) Community Service Committee conducted its annual "Diaper Drive" for The Diaper Train® program. The Diaper Train is a program of Saint Saviour's Center and a Community Partner with National Diaper Bank Network. The program aids struggling families in the Triangle by collecting & delivering diapers and baby wipes to various agencies.

Tessa Hultz, RCE, CAE and CEO of the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® (RRAR) said, "Thanks to our members and with the help of Walgreens locations, nearly 17,000 Diapers were collected this year which is more than double the number collected last year and a record for the REALTOR® Foundation of the Triangle. We are delighted to provide this resource to some of the most vulnerable members of our community."

This year's collection effort was especially successful thanks to the generous participation of five Raleigh and Cary Walgreens locations. Dereck Fugleburg, Community Leader for Walgreens, said that "being able to support fellow families in need and show them that we are here to help them has been our pleasure."

Sara DuChon, a member of the Community Service Committee has led the REALTOR® Foundation's drive for the past three years. Sara noted that, "Many people do not know that diapers are not provided as a part of public assistance programs. As a result, many parents have to make difficult choices, as disposable diapers can cost up to $100 a month. In addition, babies can develop health issues and are more likely to be abused when they cry from not be changed frequently enough."

In 2013, Saint Saviour's distributed 100,000 diapers locally to the various charitable organizations around Wake County and celebrated their 1 millionth diaper given away this spring.
