Cuso International Recognized as Four-Star Charity

OTTAWA, ON, July 10, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cuso International gets top marks for excellence in accountability to donors, financial transparency and cost-efficiency.

"Being recognized as exceptional for the transparency and accountability we bring to our work is a great honour for Cuso International," says Derek G. Evans, Cuso International Chief Executive. "We are very proud of the work we do both at home and around the world, and we are pleased to be recognized as leaders among Canadian charities."

Cuso International received the rating from Charity Intelligence, a firm that helps donors be informed and give intelligently. The 4-star rating was granted to only 72 Canadian Charities from more than 400 that were ranked for efforts to be transparent, accountable and focused on results. More than 87,000 Canadians use Charity Intelligence's website as a go-to source for information on Canadian charities.

"We are proud to be recognized alongside other charitable leaders like the Canadian Red Cross, Big Brother Big Sisters of Canada, and Habitat for Humanity," says Mr. Evans. "Last year, Cuso International's fundraising dollars made it possible to deploy 548 volunteers from across Canada and the United States to work on upwards of 302 programs in 34 countries. Our volunteers give a lot, and they gain a lot. They develop creative approaches to problem solving, refine existing skills, and develop new ways of working and applying their knowledge. Everyday Cuso International volunteers
contribute directly to sustainable change in communities around the world, and our donars make that possible."

Since 1961, Cuso International has deployed more than 15,000 skilled professionals throughout 33 countries as volunteers. With the support of DFATD and countless Canadians, Cuso International continues to change lives.
