OAKLAND, Calif., July 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alameda Health System (AHS) announced today that David Cox has been named Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Cox, a 30-year health care veteran, will oversee all of the financial functions throughout AHS including the annual operating and capital budgetary planning process, payroll, project financing, financial planning and external relations. He will also play a key role as principal advisor on new business opportunities.

Mr. Cox most recently served as Chief Financial Officer of Marin General Hospital and Marin Healthcare District, where he transitioned the hospital out of the Sutter system and brought Sonoma Valley and Palm Drive Hospitals into the system as affiliates. In that role, he also led a $10 million operational improvement program with MedAssets.
Previously, Mr. Cox served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of St. Mary's Health System in Waterbury, Conn., where he developed the region's most successful breast health program. Mr. Cox additionally acted as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont, where he achieved solid profitability within 18 months at a previously struggling academic medical center. Earlier in his career, he served as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Sutter Health in Sacramento, CA and played a key role in the development of the system. Mr. Cox served as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Cox received a Master's Degree in Business Administration from University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, and a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Calif. He has earned numerous accolades including North Bay Business Journal's CFO of the Year in 2011, and Becker's List of Healthcare Systems CFO's to Know in 2012 and 2013. He also served as Commissioner of the Partnership Health Plan Board, the BETA Healthcare Board of Directors, and was a member of the Senior Care Action Network's (SCAN) Provider Integration Committee.
