O2Micro Reports Second Quarter 2014 Financial Results

O2Micro® International Limited (Nasdaq:OIIM), a global leader in the design, development and marketing of high-performance integrated circuits and solutions, reported its financial results today for the second quarter of 2014, ending June 30, 2014.

Financial Highlights for the Second Quarter ending June 30, 2014:

O2Micro International Limited reported Q2 2014 revenue of $17.4 million. Revenue was up 6% sequentially and down 7% from the comparable year-ago quarter. The gross margin in the second quarter of 2014 was 51.5%. The gross margin was flat from the prior quarter and up from 51.2% in the second quarter of 2013. The gross margin remains in our target range and varies primarily with revenue level and product mix. During the second quarter of 2014, the company recorded total GAAP operating expenses of $12.1 million, compared to $11.6 million in the first quarter of 2014 and $14.6 million in the year-ago Q2 period. The respective GAAP operating margins for the second quarter of 2014, the first quarter of 2014, and second quarter of 2013 were (17.9%), (18.9%), and (26.8%).

GAAP net loss was $3.2 million in Q2 2014. This compares to a GAAP net loss of $2.9 million in the first quarter of 2014 and a GAAP net loss of $4.4 million in Q2 2013. GAAP net loss per fully diluted ADS was $0.12 in Q2 2014. This compares to a GAAP net loss per fully diluted ADS of $0.10 in Q1 2014 and a GAAP net loss per fully diluted ADS of $0.15 in Q2 2013.

Financial Highlights for the Six Months ending June 30, 2014:

O2Micro International Limited reported revenue of $33.9 million for the six months ending June 30, 2014. This was down 6.1% from $36.1 million in the comparable six months of 2013. The gross margins were 51.5% and 50.6% during the corresponding periods of 2014 and 2013, respectively. GAAP operating expenses were $23.7 million and $28.7 million in the first half of 2014 and 2013, respectively. The respective GAAP operating margins for the comparable periods were (18.4%) and (29.0%). Pretax loss from continuing operations was $5.6 million in the first half of 2014. This compares to a pretax loss from continuing operations of $9.0 million in the first half of 2013. GAAP net loss was $6.1 million in 1H 2014. This compares to a GAAP net loss of $9.5 million in 1H 2013. The GAAP net loss per fully diluted ADS was $0.22 in the first six months of 2014. This compares to a GAAP net loss per fully diluted ADS of $0.32 in the corresponding first half of 2013.

Supplementary Data:

The company ended the second quarter of 2014 with $66.2 million in unrestricted cash and short-term investments or $2.42 per outstanding ADS. The accounts receivable balance was $10.2 million and represented 47 days sales outstanding at the end of Q2 2014. Inventory was $9.6 million or 95 days and turned over 3.8 times during Q2 2014. As of June 30, 2014, the company had $77.8 million in working capital and the book value was $118.8 million, or $4.35 per outstanding ADS.

As of June 30, 2014, O2Micro International Limited counted 475 employees, including 281 engineers.
