Government Technology Visionary, Sid Burgess, Joins GovDelivery as Solutions Consultant

Burgess to Speak on Enhancing Digital Communications Strategy at Upcoming Next Generation of Government Training Summit

WASHINGTON, July 23, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GovDelivery announced today that technology visionary and former firefighter, combat medic and city councilman, Sid Burgess, will join the company as a solutions consultant. With more than 12 years working with government agencies, Burgess is an industry visionary who has spoken on the national level about the intersection of technology and constituent services. He is a technologist and an advocate for livable communities and helps local governments use the internet to be more open, accessible, and connected to the public. Burgess will partner with public sector organizations to identify and assess technical solutions with regard to their digital communications efforts. In this role, Burgess will leverage his expertise in government and technology to improve public sector agencies' outreach expansion and stakeholder engagement with cloud-based solutions.

"Sid is widely known for his passion and forward-thinking vision of the government technology industry," said Scott Burns, CEO and co-Founder of GovDelivery. "From firefighter to city councilman to technologist, Sid has spent his career strengthening and solidifying communities.  We're thrilled to have Sid extend our Civic Innovator program and leverage his experience to continue to help public sector organizations use digital communications to better engage their citizens and move those people to take the actions that strengthen and solidify communities."

Throughout an impressive career working with the public sector, Burgess has built and managed teams focused on rebuilding and revitalizing cities. He was appointed by the Oklahoma Speaker of the House and the Mayor of Oklahoma City to serve in various advisory roles.  Burgess led e-procurement pilots in the state and local space, responsible for conducting pilots with state and local government agencies to determine and document the effectiveness of using a simplified, online procurement platform. He was also the CEO of LittleGov, which helped facilitate the discovery and implementation of strategies and solutions that make communities stronger. Burgess graduated from the Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training Academy, the U.S. Army Infantry Center, and the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences.

"There are few other companies that can match the amount of time GovDelivery has spent helping the public sector leverage cloud-based technology to improve local governments' ability to engage constituents and connect with public sector organizations," said Burgess. "They have literally been building a networked community of governments that are all focused on working together to meet and exceed mission objectives through citizen engagement.  That represents just a glimpse at the breadth of experience GovDelivery has, and I'm excited to continue exploring the intersection of government and technology here."

Burgess will speak at the upcoming Next Generation of Government Training Summit in Arlington, VA on July 25, 2014, hosted by GovLoop and Young Government Leaders. Part of the conference's "Results Driven Track," the panel discussion will center around helping government organizations enhance digital communication strategy. Burgess will discuss how agencies communicate in the era of social media and smart phones and share case studies on how organizations are getting their message out to deliver mission value in a cost-effective way.
