NASDAQ Announces Mid-Month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date July 15, 2014


NEW YORK, July 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of July 15, 2014, short interest in 2,221 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 8,117,141,439 shares compared with 8,308,590,157 shares in 2,220 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of June 30, 2014. The Mid-July short interest represents 4.48 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.80 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 609 securities on The NASDAQ Capital MarketSM totaled 616,632,206 shares at the end of the settlement date of July 15, 2014 compared with 640,416,131 shares in 610 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 4.28 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 4.28.

In summary, short interest in all 2,830 NASDAQ® securities totaled 8,733,773,645 shares at the July 15, 2014 settlement date, compared with 2,830 issues and 8,949,006,288 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 4.47 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.76 days for the previous reporting period.

The open short interest positions reported for each NASDAQ security reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations.
