Artesian Resources Corporation Honored by The American Heart Association as a Fit-Friendly Worksite

NEWARK, Del., July 31, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Artesian Resources Corporation (Nasdaq:ARTNA), a leading provider of water, wastewater services and related services on the Delmarva Peninsula, was honored recently by the American Heart Association with their Gold Achievement Award as a Fit-Friendly Worksite.

The Fit-Friendly program recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees and work to create a culture of physical activity and health in the workplace. Artesian has implemented a wellness program for employees at every level. They offer on-site strength training, yogaflex, core conditioning and a walking trail. In addition, the company supports presentations by various organizations such as the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, and other agencies who offer workshops and tips to employees on health issues.

The company has an active Wellness Committee that publishes a monthly wellness newsletter with advice on topics that include healthy eating, exercise, eye health, skin cancer screening, smoking cessation, and other health related topics. They have also contracted with Cardio-Kinetics, a local licensed medical provider that performs employee physicals, health assessments and biometric screenings.

When the award was presented on July 17 to Dian C. Taylor, President and CEO, she said, "I would like to thank the American Heart Association for this award on behalf of all Artesian employees. We are striving to create a healthy and vibrant workforce by offering on-site wellness activities that help employees get fit and stay fit. Our program not only benefits our employees, but their improved health also helps to control our health insurance cost."
