Berlin, August 4, 2014. For the first time, a system designed to provide
radiation in treating gynecological tumors with brachytherapy sources has
been installed in a hospital in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, as
part of a United Nations aid program for expanding healthcare in Africa.
Brachytherapy involves miniaturized, wire-guided radiation sources placed
at the site of the tumor, which are especially effective in treating
cervical cancer. The GyneSource afterloader was provided by Berlin-based
Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG GmbH and was successfully put into operation last
month.

Tikur Anbessa (Black Lion) Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Addis
Ababa, was the recipient. It owns the country's only specialized cancer
center and recently began expanding its treatment options with the new
afterloader. According to information provided by Ethiopia's Ministry of
Health, there are more than 150,000 cancer cases per year in the country.
There have been very few options for treating cancer patients until now.

GyneSource is a multichannel HDR afterloader especially developed for
treating gynecological tumors quickly and cost-effectively. It is operated
using cobalt radiation sources known for their long service life, which
increases cost efficiency. BEBIG is one of the few providers of such
equipment, which has helped it to secure success in the healthcare sector
of emerging economies. The company works together with United Nations
organizations and the World Bank.

About Eckert & Ziegler
Eckert & Ziegler Strahlen- und Medizintechnik AG (ISIN DE0005659700), with
approximately 700 employees, is one of the world's largest providers of
isotope technology for radiation therapy and nuclear medicine.
