Premier, Inc.'s MEMdata Acquisition Experiencing Growth

Six Premier Member Health Systems Leveraging Customized Capital Equipment Planning and Procurement Solutions to Improve Efficiency

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 14, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Six health systems have expanded their partnerships with Premier, Inc. (Nasdaq:PINC) to lower costs, increase efficiency and better serve their patient population using MEMdata capital equipment planning and procurement solutions.

The following health systems will leverage MEMdata's customized equipment planning, sourcing, advisory, and analytics services.

  • Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Md.;
  • Baptist Health South Florida, Miami, Fla.;
  • Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville, Tenn.;
  • Doctors Community Hospital, Lanham, Md.;
  • Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, Mo.; and
  • NYU Langone Medical Center, New York, a member of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA).

Premier acquired MEMdata, LLC on April 7 to enhance its ability to drive meaningful construction and capital equipment savings. Combining Premier's robust portfolio with MEMdata solutions, health systems access an integrated approach to capital planning, inventory and procurement management.

"When it comes to construction cost and equipment, technology and pricing can change quickly. We expect MEMdata to help us benchmark competitive pricing for our construction and capital equipment needs," said Kenyetta Keys, materials director at Doctors Community Hospital. "MEMdata offers us a unique, comprehensive solution that can help us improve efficiency and costs."

MEMdata leverages proprietary databases with more than 35,000 products and specifications, identifying a savings of 10-18 percent on average. Specializing in top clinical and non-clinical equipment at the lowest cost, it derives price intelligence to competitively benchmark against best practices in the market.

"Capital equipment is a large-spend category that presents challenges since products are purchased infrequently, technology changes rapidly, and there is significant pricing variation," said Durral R. Gilbert, president of supply chain services, Premier. "We're increasingly seeing that health systems are interested in working with Premier and MEMdata to improve efficiency across the board. These relationships also bring valuable opportunities to our supplier partners by including them in member capital purchasing decisions."

Wes Champion, senior vice president of Premier Performance Partners, said, "We're working with several other members that are planning to expand their partnerships with Premier in this area. As we focus on helping health systems make the right choices at each stage of their capital equipment projects, they can focus on providing the best care to their patients."

The terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
