Preferred Bank Announces Loan Recovery

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Preferred Bank (Nasdaq:PFBC), an independent commercial bank focusing on the diversified California market, today announced the receipt of a nonaccrual loan payoff and a concurrent sizeable loan loss recovery. Preferred Bank ("the Bank") reported that on August 15, 2014, a $5.6 million loan on nonaccrual status (in loans held for sale as of June 30, 2014) was paid off. In addition, because the Bank had previously charged off over 50% of the loan balance in 2012, the Bank recorded a recovery to the allowance for loan and lease losses (ALLL) of $4.6 million, which will be reflected in the financial results for the third quarter of 2014.

Li Yu, Chairman and CEO commented, "As I mentioned in our second quarter earnings call, we were informed in June of this planned payoff transaction and are extremely pleased to be getting this nonaccrual loan paid off and also to receive this significant recovery. This recovery will not only boost our allowance for loan and lease losses, but also increase our June 30, 2014 pro forma total risk-based capital ratio from 14.25% to 14.48%."
