MasTec Named Hispanic Business Enterprise Chair for USHCC National Convention

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) has announced MasTec, the largest Hispanic-owned construction and engineering company in America, as the Hispanic Business Enterprise (HBE) chair for its upcoming national convention, set to take place September 21-23, 2014 in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The annual convention is a premier event for America's small business community, convening thousands of Hispanic business owners, corporate executives, elected officials, and representatives from local chambers and business associations throughout the country.

"Each fall, the USHCC selects an HBE chair whose CEO embodies the values that guide our association. Jose Mas not only meets this description, he's a living example of American entrepreneurship at its finest," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "Jose has long served as a role model for our nation's 3.2 million Hispanic business owners, and has played a key role in the success of our previous National Conventions, including those in Los Angeles, Miami, and Chicago. This year, we aim to make history in Salt Lake City, and that's why we are honored to have Jose as the 2014 National Convention HBE Chair."

Jose Mas has served as MasTec's CEO since 2007. Under his leadership, MasTec has grown into a $4 billion company that has created over 13,000 well-paying American jobs in construction, renewable energy and telecommunications.

"I am pleased to be joining the USHCC as a member of the board of directors, and as HBE Chair of its 2014 National Convention in Salt Lake City. Over the years, I have enjoyed a strong partnership with the association, and have benefitted greatly from their advocacy work both in Washington, D.C. and throughout the country," said MasTec CEO Jose Mas. "I look forward to working closely with the USHCC as it looks to expand into new markets throughout the state of Utah and throughout the region."

During the 2011 National Convention in Miami, the USHCC honored Jose Mas as one of the top Hispanic Business Enterprises in America. This month in Miami, Mr. Palomarez officially announced Jose Mas as the newest member of the USHCC's Board of Directors, a diverse governing body composed of prominent business executives representing diverse industries, communities and leadership styles.

"Under Jose's leadership, MasTec has grown exponentially over the past seven years. He's made our community proud by building on his father's legacy, and continues to serve as a shining example of the immense contributions Hispanic and immigrant-owned firms make to our nation's economy and way of life," said USHCC Chairman Marc Rodriguez. "We're thrilled to be working alongside Jose for what promises to be an historic national convention, and look forward to his leadership as a member of our board for years to come."
