NASDAQ Announces Mid-Month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date August 15, 2014


NEW YORK, Aug. 26, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of August 15, 2014, short interest in 2,237 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 8,021,392,824 shares compared with 8,235,627,809 shares in 2,227 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of July 31, 2014. The Mid-August short interest represents 4.44 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.94 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 627 securities on The NASDAQ Capital MarketSM totaled 615,189,253 shares at the end of the settlement date of August 15, 2014 compared with 615,255,116 shares in 614 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 6.73 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 5.30.

In summary, short interest in all 2,864 NASDAQ® securities totaled 8,636,582,077 shares at the August 15, 2014 settlement date, compared with 2,841 issues and 8,850,882,925 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 4.55 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.96 days for the previous reporting period.
