AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- College football season is underway and the first weekend is packed with exciting matchups. TicketCity has ranked the full slate of games occurring in Week 1 using average sale price to compile a list of the five hottest games. Number 16 ranked Clemson's visit to number 12 Georgia tops the list with the highest average price and the highest starting price. These rivals met last year on opening weekend in South Carolina and with a final score of 38-35 (Clemson), it proved to be one of the most exciting matchups of that weekend as well.
The next three games on the list are all neutral site games that kick off the season in some of the nation's largest stadiums. The second matchup features defending National Champions Florida State taking on the Oklahoma State Cowboys at AT &T Stadium, home of the other Cowboys. With Florida State ranked at the top and returning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston on the gridiron, this game should set the tone for the rest of the Seminole's season.
The third game on the list is unranked West Virginia against #2 ranked Alabama in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic. Alabama met up with Virginia Tech in the same stadium last year and handily beat the Hokies 35 to 10. But don't count West Virginia out just yet, it's been 10 years since they lost a season opening game.
The last two games to round out the list are Wisconsin vs LSU and SMU at Baylor. LSU has a short drive over to Houston for this matchup and as a result, they'll have exponentially more fans creating a home game atmosphere that should bode well for the Tigers. Meanwhile, a few hours away in Waco, the Baylor Bears are taking on SMU in their inaugural game in the new, state-of-the-art facility, McLane Stadium. The Bears are ranked #10 and coming off a Big 12 Championship. Their first home game in their new stadium will kickoff a new season the strongest way possible.
